Pink Lily Cancer Awareness Walk/Run A Success
Written by Curtis MortonAs part of the prestigious Tri Star series of events, the Pink Lily Cancer Awareness walk/run was held on Wednesday afternoon-28th March.
The event commenced at the Four Seasons Resort with preliminary instructions on the route being outlined by President of the St.Kitts-Nevis Triathlon Federation, Winston Crooke.
Interestingly, over fifty of the guests at the prestigious hotel signed up for the event at short notice. Also included in the walk/run were a number of locals who had already enjoyed the privilege of free mammograms compliments of the Pink Lily Association. Among them was renowned star athlete on Nevis and former West Indies Netball Captain, Lydia Claxton who stated that she was happy to participate and referred to herself as a ‘Cancer survivor,’ thanks to God and the efforts of the Pink Lily Cancer Care Association. Over one hundred individuals participated in the event.
The athletes had the choice of walking or running the entire route which saw them journeying onto the island’s main road from Four Seasons and heading the wrong way up to the Octagon Restaurant on the Samuel Hunkins Drive and then returning via the main road and climaxing in the vicinity of Sunshine’s Bar and Grill situated on Pinneys Beach.
Local long distance runner, Vanessa Williams was second for the runners, beaten only by one of the visiting American Triathletes.
The money collected from the registration fees of the participants will be handed over to the Pink Lily Association as they continue the fight against the dreaded disease.
