Culture Minister defends Melting Pot replacement

ST JOHN’S, ANTIGUA – Minister of State with Responsibility for Culture and Carnival in Antigua, Eleston Adams, has defended the Carnival Development Committee’s (CDC) introduction of the Caribbean Soca Monarch Competition, which will replace the unpopular Caribbean Melting Pot.

Carnival organizers in Antigua have decided they will replace the Caribbean Melting Pot with a regional soca competition for Carnival 2012.

St. KITTS: Popular hip hop, Sparkling Entertainment artiste, Gustave ‘SMI’ Smith - out of Sandy Point recently released a tune called 'Tsunami Love '. Last night, he was scheduled to release a single on FreedomFM just in time for Valentine's Day called 'Have You Seen Her.' Cliff Richards of Hungry Frog Productions (out of St. Kitts) produced the beats for the two songs.

BASSETERRE, ST.KITTS: The National Carnival Committee has reportedly disclosed that 2011/2012 Sugar Mas Soca Monarch competition Groovy and Power winners, Shakki Starfire and Mighty Takeover, respectively will be participating in Wadadli’s (Antigua) annual summer Carnival festivity which runs from May 5 to August7.

'Soul Train' host Don Cornelius commits suicide

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Don Cornelius, creator of the long-running and pioneering TV dance show 'Soul Train,' shot himself to death this morning at his home, police said. He was 75.

The excitement is on and plans are now underway for the hosting of the 7th Annual Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant entitled 'Culturally Yours'.  This year, the committee has decided to incorporate a theme into the production of the show which has absolutely no bearing on the presentations of each delegate.

DANCEHALL deejay Elephant Man, was granted bail in the sum of $400,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court this afternoon.

NEWSLINK took time out this week to get up close and personal with a singing soca sensation in the Federation of St.Kitts and Nevis, Ali- Dee.  Her real name is Alison Dore and she comes from the renowned singing family of the well-known gospel trio, The Dore brothers.  One of the members of the trio, Allister Dore, is her father. She is also related to the renowned Pat Ross of St.Kitts.

BASSETERRE, ST.KITTS:   The 2011/2012 Sugar Mas Road March Champion, the Grand Masters Band is expected to have its victory jam throughout the streets of Basseterre in celebration of their winning ‘None A Dem’ hit which amassed a total of 27 points.

Miss St. Kitts wins Caribbean Teen pageant

BASSETERRE, ST.KITTS: St. Kitts representative 15-year-old Siobhan Phipps was crowned the 2011/2012 Miss Digicel Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen after midnight last Thursday before a massive audience gathered at Carnival Village.

Twenty-seven-year-old Konris Maynard was crowned the 2011-2012 Senior Calypso  monarch for a fifth time following the competition which was held at the Sugar Mill on the Warner Park Cricket grounds.

BASSETERRE, ST.KITTS: Shakki Starfire and Mighty Takeover were crowned the winners in the 2011/2012 Soca Monarch competition in the Groovy and Power categories respectively, before a massive crowd at the Sugar Mill  (at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium), last Friday night.
