Brades Montserrat ( March 7, 2013) - According to a release from the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, “there has been no change in activity at the (Soufriere Hills Volcano)”. This statement was made in response to comments and queries from residents, visitors and individuals in neighboring islands. An official said “People are commenting about the strong smell from the volcano over the past few days - we even had an email from Saba saying that Montserrat had erupted!”

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremonies Confirmed

Director of Community Development, Mrs. Janet Maloney on Monday appealed to residents and citizens on Nevis to play their significant role in making the Christmas season one of cheer and sharing.
She was at the time speaking on the program, ‘The Social Development Outlook,’ aired Mondays on Choice Radio.
She reminisced on Christmases past and spoke to the unity among villagers in the various communities and the camaraderie exhibited then. Maloney appealed to Nevisians and residents to relive those days by reviving true community spirit.
She pointed to the various Christmas tree lighting ceremonies which are scheduled for the various communities throughout Nevis and noted that such were perfect examples of true community spirit as the community members teamed up to prepare for the event.
Special mention was made of Patron of the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony slated for Charlestown on Monday night, Mr. Arthur Evelyn.
Special mention was also made of the husband and wife team of Augustine and Carmelita Merchant who were the designated patrons at the tree lighting ceremony slated for Market Shop on Thursday night.
She then used the opportunity to reveal the dates for the upcoming tree lighting ceremonies that have been confirmed thus far. (See details in table)

Basseterre, St.Kitts (October 31st 2012):-Leader of the St.Kitts-Nevis main Opposition Party the People's Action Movement, the Hon Shawn Richards has expressed his concern and support for the many nationals of St.Kitts and Nevis living in New York and New Jersey, who were affected by the recent passage of hurricane Sandy.  Hurricane Sandy brought death and destruction to residents of these two States in the United States, where a large number of nationals of the Federation reside.
